Day 13 - Reputation = Capability + Visibility + Credibility

It's no good being the best kept secret in the world. Visibility Creator Tina Jesson says few people will do business with a secret!

My old mentor and fantastic networker Will Kintish taught me that the strategy for survival is visibility. But more than visibility is capability. You've got to be good at something. You've got to know stuff. You've got to have something good to sell. You've got to have a great message.

Then you need to get your message out there. Visibility is crucial. If more people see you, more people have a chance to:

  1. Know You
  2. Like You
  3. Rate You
  4. Buy You
  5. Refer You.

That's why I'm doing this 90 day 'Zero to Hero' experiment - how to build a reputation online using social media and online networking. I'm becoming more visible to more people. Of course, once you've got the visibility, you're starting to create a following. Then you've got to get the credibility and trust so people buy you and recommend you.

It's a slow burn. But you can do it faster than your peers, rivals and competitors. How? By doing these seven things, each of which I'm doing in my 90 day experiment.

  1. Be consistent. It's a never ending task so spend a little time online each day making connections, building relationships and adding value.
  2. Be open. Shift your thinking from the usual email communications to spending more time IN THE NETWORKS you're building.
  3. Be ruthless. The more you get involved in online networking and social media, the more you'll see it's a massive stream of information. Be tough and filter well. It gets easier!
  4. Be strategic. I've just devised a plan of 8 things I'll do every day on each of three social networking sites, which I'll share tomorrow. Have a plan!
  5. Be quick. Get really good with yrou time. All relationships are a factor of time spent in, on and with PEOPLE. The more time you make and save, the better your relationships.
  6. Be specific. Know what you're about, what you do and where you add value. Know how you're different and better.
  7. Be you. be authentic, be real, be genuine, be in your flow and be YOU! There's nobody does it better!
