Day 2 - Getting Started in Building a Reputation

Despite having written an Amazon bestselling book How to Build Your Reputation, 95% of it was about working in an offline world.

Sure, there was some mention of blogging, e-newsletters and websites, but virtually nothing on social media. What an oversight!

So I'm doing this 90 Day Extreme Reputation Building Blog to go from Zero to Hero in 90 DAYS! with my reputation.

And you'll be seeing my every move plus the strategies, the insight and the results.

I've been converted to the power of social networking for the following reasons:

  1. My competitors are doing it, and I respect them and their business. I also keep an eye on them.
  2. I've 'seen the future' from people like Penny Power, Thomas Power and Matthew Fraser.
  3. My business is being challenged to bring in increased revenues by doing the same thing as I've done before. Hello? Not going to happen!
  4. I want to move to the next level in my work, and this is THE way!
  5. I've written a book on it, soI ought to be 'walking the walk!'

Here's what I've been working on today, which is the first proper on (I don't work Sundays, although I'll post a blog for that day):

  • Preparation (60 mins). Setting up my office and systems to be ready to manage and filter the deluge of information I'm expecting to receive. Here's how my workstation looks now:

My 4 screen set-up for maximum productivity. From left:
  • Screen 1 is for managing files and mind mapping.
  • Screen 2 is for Gmail, Calendar and Contacts.
  • Screen 3 is for website management and writing blogs like this.
  • Screen 4 is for Social Networking - can you see Ecademy on screen?
  • The book is Matthew Fraser's latest book on Social Media - brilliant!

Other tools in the office:
  • My laptop - always handy for emergencies.
  • Lots of water - keeps the head clear!
  • My webcam and headphones to the left for Skype calls.
  • iPhone in the middle on the desk as well as landline to the left.
  • Boxes of business cards on window-sill - recent events and connections.
  • Twitter Twenty (20 mins). This is what I've termed my daily 20 mins on Twitter. Thomas Power loves Twitter, and he's one of the world's top networkers and social media experts. Today I've simply set up my profile and made a tweet! Twitter answers the simple question: 'What are you doing right now?' People follow that and you follow them. Don't try to understand it. Just embrace it!
  • Ecademy (60 mins). Great site, great people. Today I spent some time redoing my profile to make it interesting and relevant. No good attracting people and then having nothing good to show them! I'm already a PowerNetworker. I'm going to invest in blackstar membership - these are people you can get close to, really help and really lean on with your business. A fantastic mastermind group!
  • My own site (90 mins). Posting this blog, taking the photos, finding this brilliant 3 min 25 secs video on YouTube on the power of Social Media from Matthew's book: Tweaking my profile, accepting and inviting connections, doing updates and looking at the clubs. It's a great directory, but as I'll be sharing with you tomorrow, it does not strictly follow the social media rules of open, sharing and random!
  • LinkedIn (30 mins). Tweaking my profile, accepting and inviting connections, doing updates and looking at the clubs. It's a great directory, but as I'll be sharing with you tomorrow, it does not strictly follow the social media rules of open, sharing and random!
Tomorrow I'll be sharing with you what Penny Power taught me at some fantastic social media training last week - this is the stuff that made me shift my whole outlook on social media!
