Why Settle for Mediocrity?

I spend a lot of time showing my clients how to enhance their reputations and become the 'go to' professional for what they do. I'm not the only one who sees this as important. Spend five minutes out of your day and listen to world-class thinker Seth Godin on the Mindset of a Winner. This video will open your eyes to personal reputation building!

Do You Have Gravitas?

After the success on Amazon (top ten) of How to Build Your Reputation, I'm working with my co-author Debbie Binner on my latest venture: Personal Gravitas - What Is It, Who Has It, Who Needs It and How to Get It!

If you want:

  • People take you (more) seriously
  • A greater depth of personality
  • To stand out more from the crowd
  • To open up more opportunities for you and your business
  • More charisma and appeal
  • To fast track your career
  • To be a more credible, forceful and compelling leader
  • To be a more feared, respected and intimidating opponent
  • To be someone people turn to for advice and judgment.

Then this is a little-understood and crucial subject matter that in researching the book, we're collecting the views of the top journalists, broadcasters, writers, experts, business leaders and thought-leaders worldwide. So if you:

Would like to appear in this book.

Have any particular insight, examples or thoughts on this topic.

Would like to shape the content in one way or another.

Know key people who would add value to this project.

Then take part in 10 minute Gravitas Survey and be one of the first to see the research results. You can even pre-order your own copy of the book. Go to www.personalgravitas.com and simply click 'Shape the Content'.

How to Sell More

Ever wondered why you’re not selling as much as you need to? It’s simple – you don’t have the time! If you’re like most people, you’re not just technically competent, but you have some kind of selling angle to your role. For instance, a lot of my banking clients have to manage customer portfolios and also uncover new business opportunities. And you know the biggest thorn in your side? Your boss telling you to do non-sales things!

If you’ve got a sales role, you need to be selling! If you’ve got a marketing role, you need to be marketing. And you need to hold your managers accountable in freeing you up to do that, because it takes time! A phrase I came across recently is ‘time selling’ which represents those critical lead-generating and converting activities. For you, that means relationship building, networking, connecting, questioning, presenting and probing. It doesn’t mean admin, compliance, paperwork, fire-fighting, low level tasks and research.
If you're running a team that you want to win more business, sales expert Justin Hitt recommends you do the following:

  1. Insist sales people spend 99% of their time selling.
  2. Re-assign non-selling activities to support staff.
  3. Require all tasking to go through you first in every instance.
  4. Provide time management training specific to sales people.
  5. Make it policy that selling is their number one priority.
  6. Hire one administrator for your office dedicated to sales.
  7. Help your selling team focus on more profitable customers.
  8. Orient office time around reporting sales results, not chit-chat.
  9. Schedule periodic non-selling team building outside of the office.

Remember that the core activity for anyone with a dominant sales angle to their role is to meet with qualified prospects and potential referral partners. Anything beyond this is not core business development. Think about it! So look to the right and you'll see a tool to get you started straightaway! More details>>
